Prolificx, an Imarda company, today announced the world's smallest PLC4Trucks-based device for tracking trailing equipment attached to trucks. The Prolificx PLCTag measures just 1.07inches x 1.7inches x 0.4inches (38mm x 44mm x 10mm), making it four times smaller than competing products. Its small size means that unlike other devices, Prolificx's PLCTag can be mounted inside most J560 housings used on trailing equipment, making it simpler to install and protecting the tag from damage and tampering.

The PLCTag is based on the “PLC4Trucks” communication standard which transmits information across a vehicle's wiring. When fitted to the trailing equipment, the PLCTag provides identification and other information to a reader device (such as Prolificx's Vector 300WP) located on the tractor. This information can be used to identify and track trailing equipment, detect hook and drop hook events, and also provide mileage information for maintenance purposes.

The PLCTag offers the advantage of both a factory programmed unique ID and a 12 character user programmable ID, providing compatibility with a company's existing asset tracking and monitoring systems. The PLCTag also optionally supports digital inputs which can be used for monitoring status of door switches, lamps, or other digital sensing equipment.
