MRM in the Cloud

Everyone is talking Cloud at the moment, but what does it really mean and how does it apply to the MRM user?

Simply said, Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. Interestingly enough MRM and Telematics solutions have in fact been operating this way for over a decade. What has changed in recent years however is the rapid adoption by other business solutions to operate in the Cloud. This provides the opportunity for Cloud based solutions to talk to each other more freely and exchange useful information, which can be combined to provide greater value to the end user.

In the MRM space, this is driving more value from niche solutions which can be combined to provide a better overall solution. As a consumer of MRM solutions, customers now expect their MRM provider to be capable of connecting 3rd party intelligence alongside conventional telematics functionality.

So what should a user of a modern MRM Platform expect?

  • The ability to connect to 3rd party SaaS solutions
  • The ability for a 3rd party SaaS solution to connect to the MRM Platform API
  • The ability to empower the wider developer community to connect to the MRM Platform API
  • The ability to scale to an extremely large volume of transactions
  • The ability to support an increasing number of communication protocols and hardware devices
  • The ability to support and utilize custom metadata
  • The ability to support modern Consumer Devices such as iPhone and iPad

To add complexity the question may only come in days after the job is completed and by then memories are starting to fade and the job card is the only record.
