How tired are your drivers?

It is the responsibility of business owners and fleet managers to ensure their drivers are compliant with hours of service regulations every second they are behind the wheel of a company vehicle. Ensuring compliance with these industry standards ensures the safety of your drivers and other motorists on the road, and verifies organisational liability should an accident occur; but this can be a difficult and time consuming task to manage when you have a large number of drivers and vehicles operating at any given time.

Drivers who operate company vehicles outside of the HOS restrictions are a huge risk to your organisation. Non-compliance affects the entire chain of responsibility from drivers to schedulers through to senior management. It is illegal to make a request or demand that would result in a fatigue related breach, and when an offense does occur, anyone who is involved can be held responsible. Fines vary depending on the severity of the breach and can cost drivers and/or companies thousands of dollars. Likewise, if an accident was to occur when a driver was outside his/her hours, they and your company would be completely liable.

i360’s fatigue management module allows businesses to proactively ensure each driver is operating within the driver fatigue laws. i360 automatically monitors the number of hours each driver has been working for on a daily, weekly and bi-weekly basis and prompts are delivered via SMS or in-cab devices reminding staff when their required breaks are due. Intelligent fleet management systems will enable you to manage driver fatigue by exception; your staff are compliant with the hours of service regulations unless the system notifies you otherwise. i360 informs designated staff members in real time if drivers are operating company assets outside of the regulations which means that corrective action can implemented in a timely manner. Real time and historical reports are also available on per driver, per vehicle and per journey basis.

Effective monitoring and the ability to reliably demonstrate historical and up-to-the-minute compliance with driver hours of service legislation is a feature of i360 which has added instrumental value to one of our Australian enterprise clients. A fatal accident involving another motorist was an unfortunate tragedy our client had to deal with. This customer used our fatigue management module to demonstrate that the driver was compliant with his daily, weekly and fortnightly hours of service which verified that fatigue was not a factor of the crash. The ability to identify and verify the speed at which the vehicle was travelling, how long the driver had been on the road for and if they were legally fit to be behind the wheel meant that our client as well as the local authorities could quickly and effectively determine the cause of the crash and proceed through their incident processes as necessary.
